This project is currently under NDA, so I'm unable to share visuals, screens, or detailed design artifacts. What follows is a high-level, text-only summary of the work and progress so far. I'll expand this as more of it becomes shareable.

If you're interested in this work, I'd love to tell you more. Please feel free to reach out and chat with me.

A new product.A new problem space.

Adapting GE's existing appliance interaction model to a fundamentally different product required reconciling new hardware constraints, a smaller screen footprint, and users who cook in real time — with no margin for confusion mid-task.

01

New Product

No prior version to extend or reference. Every pattern had to be evaluated from first principles.

02

New Screen

Different dimensions and resolution from the existing GE appliance ecosystem. No direct template.

03

New User Behaviors

Cooking-in-progress interactions demand speed and clarity. Users have wet hands, limited attention, and no patience for friction.

Tested early.Iterated fast.

Prototypes were taken to users across two rounds of moderated testing — in-person, with physical hardware mock-ups to simulate real cooking conditions.

What we tested

  • Navigation speed under simulated cooking pressure
  • Timer + temperature legibility from 2ft distance
  • Error recovery flows and undo affordances
  • Onboarding comprehension for first-time users

What we learned

  • Users skipped secondary labels entirely when cooking
  • Tap target size was consistently the #1 failure point
  • Confirmation dialogs created hesitation at critical moments
  • Icon-only navigation caused confusion without labels

What changed

  • Eliminated confirmation modals; replaced with inline undo
  • Increased all primary tap targets to 56px minimum
  • Added persistent bottom label bar to navigation
  • Collapsed error messaging into ambient status
